DTS-HD
DTS-HD is the next-generation lossless technology for use on high definition Blu-Ray
Discs
and HD DVD. The format extends on the capabilities of DTS-ES, is backward compatible with other DTS digital formats and will be bit-for-bit identical with the studio master. DTS-HD is an optional surround sound format for HD DVD and Blu-Ray
Disc. It will support 7.1 channels of 24-bit/96 kHz audio. In most homes furniture placement and room dimensions dictate where speakers can be placed, so it is often difficult or impossible to get the traditional 7.1 speaker placement. DTS-HD has some alternative speaker placements
which can help you over-come this hurdle.
DTS-HD Speaker Placement
DTS-HD Full Rear Surround has the front left , center and right speakers in their traditional locations, but moves the left and right side surround speakers back so that it is behind but still to the side of the listener (an angle of 110° from the video screen). The right and left surround stay in their standard positions (an angle of 150°) .
DTS-HD Side High again leave the front speakers unchanged from the standard layout, the side surround speakers are at the traditional 90°
angle but moves vertically higher than is standard. The right and left surround speakers are moved to an angle of 110°.
DTS-HD Front Wide again leaves the front speakers unchanged from the standard layout, the side surround speakers move to the front of the room at an angle of 60°. The right and left surround speakers are moved to an angle of 110°.
DTS-HD Front High again leaves the front speakers unchanged from the standard layout, the side surround speakers move to the same 30° angle as the front left and right speakers, but is placed vertically higher in the room. The right and left surround speakers are moved to an angle of 110°.
DTS-HD Center Over-Head again leaves the front speakers unchanged from the standard layout, the side surround speakers move to a 11 0° and a single surround channel is placed directly behind the listener. A second center channel speaker is placed directly over the listener.
DTS-HD Center Surround also leaves the front speakers unchanged from the standard layout.
The side surround speakers move to a 11 0° angle and a single surround channel is placed directly behind the listener. A second center channel speaker is placed in front of the listener but higher in the room directly over the standard center channel speaker location.
